In late 2017, we rolled out a full turnkey 10000BPH bottled water line for a new client based in Dire Dawa, eastern Ethiopia. The client already ran a mature FMCG distribution network covering the region, and this was their first venture into bottled water production. The entire plant was built from the ground up, configured exclusively for the 500ml PET bottle format that dominates the local market.
The client picked Dire Dawa for their new plant for clear logistical reasons: the city sits close to Djibouti Port and is a key transport hub for eastern Ethiopia, making it easy to supply retailers and wholesalers across Harar, Jijiga and surrounding towns.
As a first-time manufacturer, they had no in-house technical team and no prior experience running automated bottling equipment. They also faced two site-specific hurdles: the local groundwater had inconsistent quality that required proper treatment, and the region’s year-round high temperatures can throw off filling consistency and bottle forming if the equipment isn’t adjusted accordingly.
They chose us because they wanted a single partner to handle the whole project — from initial layout planning to after-sales support — instead of coordinating multiple vendors and risking misalignment.
We designed a complete production line matched to their site conditions and business goals. Before the client even started civil works, our engineers sent over a detailed CAD floor plan with exact requirements for power, water inlets and equipment foundations, so the workshop was built to fit the line perfectly, no costly rework needed.
For the local water source, we fitted a multi-stage RO treatment system with pre-filtration and sterilisation to ensure finished water meets Ethiopian drinking water standards. We also upgraded heat dissipation on the filling monobloc and blow moulder to keep performance stable even in hot weather.
Every piece of equipment went through full performance testing at our Zhangjiagang factory before shipment. The client joined a live video FAT to verify output speed, filling accuracy and overall operation quality, then the goods shipped to Djibouti Port and moved inland to Dire Dawa on schedule.
Our senior field engineer spent three weeks on site to lead installation, full line commissioning and hands-on staff training. Since the client’s team had never run an automated filling line before, we walked them through every step — from daily start-up and shutdown to routine checks and basic troubleshooting — until they could operate the line independently.
Since launch, the line has run steadily at its full 10000BPH capacity, with filling accuracy consistently above 99.9%. The client’s 500ml bottled water has already entered supermarkets and wholesale channels across eastern Ethiopia, and they’re already planning to add more distribution routes.
